What's your average?

I felt a bit blue the other night. I wasn’t sure why, but I started asking myself the possible reasons. I tend to say, “This is just another bump on the road; after that, it is all smooth.” However, I wanted to change it and say that so many bumps in the road sometimes feel like a passing grade to graduate.

Have you ever gotten a passing grade for a subject, and you were satisfied because you gave it all that you could and passing that class was satisfying? The hurdles and obstacles we are presented with can sometimes feel like grades. I am not referring to these grades being tests or exams because nobody likes that. However, in a way, these obstacles that we are given are some sort of cause we learn something from it, and if we don’t, we are given yet another test until we learn our lesson.

Let me explain a bit more. A bump on the road that we may overcome can sometimes feel like a relief, as if we have gotten to the other side, but further along the road, we see one or two bumps, but we are not sure. But we know that we will be given more obstacles to see if we will face them, turn around and go back, or stop for a second to realize what this next bump is all about.

I am living alone now, and in itself is already a significant change. Not only that, I am studying full time, wanting to keep a healthy lifestyle and focus on my growth. For the sake of this article, I will only state the ones above in a somewhat superficial way. Nonetheless, I feel overwhelmed with all of these things at times, and I want to find a balance. So, I try and meditate or write, but that isn’t enough at times. So, I cry, or at least I try to, so I can let my emotions out and about. When I realized that I was feeling so overwhelmed, I decided to take a step back and look at things from a different perspective; I decided to consider these bumps in the road, like our grades in school. We won’t even focus on these bumps in the future, but whether or not we graduated. Realizing that if we look at the bigger picture, things may seem a lot smaller and easier to handle.

So, I invite you to break down the bumps in the road or obstacles (whatever you wish to call them) that you are facing now and consider their grades. Rate each block out often and the ones you see with a lower grade; ask yourself why and what you can do to feel better. And, know that you will do great, because even if it seems as hard as you think, it will get easier, and you will ace it! What can you do to have a balance out of all the hurdles, and what are the most important lessons are?
