Viewing life in a 3D lens

Sometimes we are so focused on one thing that we forget everything else. Sometimes we get distracted and lose focus of the bigger picture. And sometimes, we allow ourselves to be drawn towards something that maybe we shouldn’t be.

This thought came to mind when I sketched something I saw the other day. I had been sitting in the same position for quite some time but decided to move. The whole sketch seemed to have been a completely different scenery. It is as though I was looking from a 2D perspective and forgetting everything that surrounded the buildings, plants, floors, and streets. The moment I changed positions, my sketch changed. And I think this is something that we do in our lives unconsciously. When we are so focused on only one aspect or thing in our lives, we forget everything else. However, the moment we decide to shift or move, we get a new perspective and view of things - whatever it might be.

Regardless of having one view on life and sticking by it, I think it is essential to shift, change, move and adapt to see what else there is. Maybe it will help you bring some life to your sketch. Perhaps it will help you create your point of view. In this case, I think I can also use photography as another reference. When we hear beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it literally means that we choose what we view in life. And if we find ourselves in a place where we simply cannot see joy, love or happiness, maybe it is time for us to shift and sit on a different chair while we sketch. We need to open to new views on life. We need to allow ourselves to experience other things because we never know if something different may add to our life that we never knew we needed. Consider it the missing symbol to make the equation complete.

So I invite you to just sit one day on a park bench, at a coffee shop, at a restaurant, or even in your bedroom and just observe and absorb what you see. When we get to a point where we expand our vision and see more things, we also see ourselves as something smaller, which in a way, it makes us feel vulnerable. But I think vulnerability is what we all need from time to time. So just sit and observe and start viewing life in 3D.
