The New Year

Why do we choose to have a fresh start in the new year? Why do we think that all the problems will be solved in the new year? Why do we like to wait to start a change in our life? Can it be because it is the assumption that we are all going through a fresh start? Why does a date define a difference in our life? Why do we assume that change is from one day to the next? What if we start to embrace a flow in transition instead of leaping into it?

From my experience, you can change your perspective from one day to the next, but the change is not seen until time has gone by. How much time? I honestly don’t know; it varies from person to person. However, when I think about the word change, I think about the word patience. Yes, we can decide that today is when our life begins to change, but it isn’t until we apply discipline and consistency to that change and start embracing the lifestyle we want to achieve.

And I have to say that this new year has started differently from all of the others. It is hard to describe, but I think it can be because the shifts or changes I have been going through started bit by bit and accumulated over time. It wasn’t until recently that I realized that this year the biggest change of all had happened in my life. Things take time to flourish. We have to be patient with whatever it is that we want. If we want a change, make the decision, whatever day it is. If we want to see a difference, let each day be like a new focus that we want to nourish having the same goal in mind.

So, even if you did decide to have that fresh start today, allow each day to be a piece of the puzzle that was added to the jigsaw. I invite you to be patient with yourself. Let yourself be the flower or plant you want to grow and take care of it so it turns out beautifully. But remember, that even if you are faced with challenges or days where you feel better than others, let them be the lessons that let you keep on growing and learning from the past. Oh yeah, and the most important thing is to believe in yourself.
