Rest and reset

Our bodies tell us more than what we want to hear at times.

Earlier this week, I was feeling alright, but not great. I had not been sleeping well nor taking care of myself as I should. I led myself to what we know as burnout. By the end of this week, I was so tired I wanted to cry (literally). Each day I started getting symptoms that I would be sick, but I decided to ignore them because I felt like I needed to push through and that I would be okay. I woke up sick this morning and don’t tend to get sick. I just took it as a clear sign that I needed to rest. Funny enough, sometimes we assume we are resting, but we aren’t; we just sleep or avoid everything. But I think when we need rest, it is that time to recharge, regroup and rebalance ourselves. Just allowing yourself to feel good again.

We ignore the signs before it is too late because we want to feel strong. However, it does not make you weak when you need to rest. It is still hard for me to realize that because I am stubborn about getting sick. But, when you do get to rest, for that day or two, you will feel better the next—just doing things you enjoy to boost your energy. And I don’t know if you believe in energy, but we have to be aware that there are so many things that absorb our energy, and we don’t even realize it. We think that we are just tired, but in reality, it is our body giving us signals that some things will simply bring us down. When we rest and do things we love, our energy recharges itself and goes back to that balanced state where we feel a sense of flow.

So, when you start feeling a bit off, listen to your body, see what it needs and give it some love. We need to feel good in our bodies to continue doing things and enjoy things more - alone or with others. Take some time for yourself: rest and reset.
