Letting go of the old and bringing in the new

As I left the place where I had lived for several years the second time around, I realized a few things after visiting for the holidays. First of all, when I left the first time, I had unfinished business and was not in the best mindset. While I was there, I spoke with someone, and they told me that I felt so tired and tense because I was carrying so much weight on my shoulders. I was in such a rush to start the so-called new life that I didn’t allow myself to say goodbye to what I would leave behind me. So when I went back, I needed to embrace the journey, not feel rushed, and start enjoying how life goes by, one day at a time.

Keep in mind that the weight we carry doesn’t always have to be physical; it can also be emotional. When I say emotional, it can be about the past, the future, or even the present and the things surrounding us.

However, as the days approached my departure, I did not feel as scared or uncertain as I did the first time I left. I needed to go because it was time for a new beginning. Nonetheless, I do have to confess that it was hard. But when I was on the plane and on my ride to the apartment, I had sensed this feeling lighter and genuinely starting to let go. At that moment, I realized that I had begun to leave behind the place and keep the memories, close a chapter and start a new one. Not to say the least, that now that I am beginning this new journey of mine, I have no doubts that there will be some ups and downs, feeling lonely, meeting new people, going to different places, a variety of things. Yet, knowing that I have this opportunity and knowing that I may or may not have those ups and downs, I see it as a chance to help me grow.

So, I want to tell you that letting go is not always easy, but sometimes it is the best thing we can do to bring in the new. Allowing ourselves to embark on this new journey to discover who we are and what we want. And, I invite you to allow yourself sometimes to let go and open up to what’s out there. Who knows, it may be better than what you expect?
