Holding On

I’ve realized that when we hold on for too long, we start to feel stuck and lack that flow state. It isn’t only physical when we hold on, but it is also emotional. We tend to hold on to things that don’t serve us anymore because they are familiar and within our comfort zone. We like to think that if we hold for a bit longer, things might change and get easier as we get used to that feeling, which is not always the best. When we hold on, we sometimes hold on to negative emotions because it is easier instead of letting them go and facing what might come after.

I recently came to terms with somebody I had met a while ago, and I realized that I was holding on so much to an illusion I had created because it was easier than facing my reality, or at least the reality of who this person was. Well, I made a bold decision today, as I tend to do, and told that person with complete honesty what I thought, and it was as easy as mouthing the words that the illusion was shattered, and it brought me back to reality. I don’t know if it was the feeling of wanting closure or being open about my emotions, but I just had to let go and feel free of this nauseating idea that fantasy may be better than reality. Why are we so fixated on thinking that holding on to something that is not even real, present or within our realm of control?

I feel that we have to learn how to let go. Nonetheless, it is easier said than done. As I spoke with my mom today, I told her: The more we focus on letting go of something, whatever it is, the more we think we have to let go of things. But what is there really to let go of if it isn’t even part of us? We need to learn that holding on is sometimes more limiting and painful than letting go and being patient with healing and growth.

As I have said before, the first thing in any healing process is accepting the situation as is. The moment we realize that some things are not meant to be or cannot control, it is easier to surrender (not in a wrong way) and feel free.

So, I invite you to set yourself free from a claustrophobic emotion or idea you might be holding on to so that you can bring in more possibilities and memories that will bring you joy and fill you up. Because what better thing is there than to feel that you are in a state of flow and nothing is holding you back from surpassing the limits you thought you had. We all know that we are capable of much more; we need to shift our perspectives and beliefs.
