Giving up & Giving in

You know, there is one thing that I am scared of, and it is being a failure. Being a failure by giving up on something or even not being good enough to be someone. But, if there is something that I have learned in the past year it is to embrace failure and consider it a lesson. The thing about giving up is that it makes you feel like you aren’t good enough to accomplish the thing you thought you were capable of doing. However, what if giving up doesn't necessarily mean something bad? What if we give up something to make more room for better things? It is like I learned in Economics - Opportunity Cost -, what is it that we are giving to get more of something else?

There are a few things that at the time of making a decision that we feel are a determinant factor that will define our life and how it is going to end up. Those decisions that we make are only based on the level of consciousness that we have at that moment. But who is to say that one decision is better than another? What if we have given up on some things and it may not have turned out in the best way possible? Those things that we choose to remove from our life in a given moment can also be for the better; and even if it isn’t necessarily for the better, it is a lesson that can be learned.

But one thing I thought about was how there is a difference between giving up and giving in. I think both are related to the boundaries we set and where we put our energy. Giving up is what we want to remove from our life as hard as it can be. And giving in is choosing what we want to keep in our life and what gives us energy to. Sometimes it is hard to decide what to do with either and sometimes it is easier to avoid both. But the thing with avoiding what we keep in our lives is simply staying in a comfort zone where we choose to limit our growth. And unfortunately, it happens to the best of us because we are familiar with what we are surrounded by. Giving up on something is also taking responsibility, becoming curious about the unknown and allowing whatever is best for us to come.

We sometimes have to just step back and look at our life as it has changed over the years, see what we have done and accomplished, as well as the moments where we feared that we wouldn’t be able to overcome them and we did. Looking at how we have changed and grown is a way to see what we have given up and what we have given into. I think from that aspect, we are able to see or choose what we want for whatever is to come, as well as clarify the decisions we make. So, I invite you to take a step back and just see yourself for who you are now, who you were before, and who you want to become.
