Expressing yourself on your own time

There are moments when you just want to be alone; alone with your thoughts, and emotions, and simply alone with yourself and nothing else. Call it meditation, a time to unwind, or a time to not do anything at all. After some overwhelming days, for whatever that might have caused that feeling, it is nice to just be with yourself to reground and recenter. it is important to figure out what has limited you to doing what you want, what has been making you feel a certain way, and what is going on. However, it is important to give yourself the time of day to do that, whether it be for a few minutes, a whole day or even more time. Being with yourself is a way to simply let go of what isn’t yours and find a way to find what is.

For the past weeks or months, I have been accumulating a bunch of feelings and emotions that I had not let go of. I realized that the healing process takes more than one day, or overcoming one lesson. It isn’t journaling until you feel alright, it is expressing yourself constantly to not hold in the emotions. for the longest time, I got into this cycle of writing until I was okay and then I stopped because I felt like there wasn’t anything else to write about. But that isn’t true… When we feel like we can

t write about anything other than our problems, it is a sign that we have focused more on our problems rather than the goodness of life. What if we start to write and focus on whatever good comes to light? Is it possible that what we write about is also reflected in what we see around us? If what we write is how we think, then maybe, when we write, it is important to start seeing the positives rather than the negatives. And just because we want to focus on the positive things, it does not mean that we cannot see what disturbs us. I think that when we write or express ourselves when we are on our own, it is important to find a way to embrace the whole story: the things we like, the things we don’t, and the things that we have to learn from. This process of self-healing is long, and it is finding pleasure in all aspects and falling in love with the journey so we continuously grow and learn.
