Expect nothing, appreciate everything

It is funny how it is so easy to jump to conclusions about things that have yet to happen. We assume certain things may occur because of something we have gone through in the past and are afraid of it happening again so we rather live in a way that makes us feel prepared to react given the situation may occur again. That may be a reason why we sometimes just prefer to be on autopilot. Being on autopilot I think allows you to live in a constant state of expecting what may happen next to know how to react, rather than living in a flow state to allow things to simply happen.

If you think about it, being the pilot of your life means being in control of what happens, or at least being in control of how you react to things when they occur. But I think we have taken the term pilot a bit too seriously and have allowed ourselves to be driven more towards already have all of these plans by jumping to conclusions to know exactly how to react to certain situations to not have to react in any other way. However, we don't always have to put so much pressure on ourselves to be or act a certain way. In that sense, I believe we should simply remove the expectations of the situations that may or may not happen in our life so we are finally able to just enjoy life as it is.

I am not saying that being in the now or living in the moment is the easiest thing to do. And if I am being entirely honest, the first thing to do when we want to live in the moment (which has taken me a while to do) is to remove the expectation. The expectation of what may happen, of how we think our life should be, and of where we see ourselves in the next few years when we have no idea of what we will do within the next year (and even if we do have an idea, we no certainty of it happening). The second thing to do is to embrace the uncertainty and the unknown of life and embrace the fact that anything may happen. Sometimes it is hard to remove the expectation as well as seek the curiosity of the unknown, but once you can do it, things seem to be a lot more interesting and beautiful in their way. The last thing I suggest you do is simply accept who you are. Well, it isn’t that simple, but deciding to take that step to get to know who you are is. So take those few steps or suggestions to live more at the moment, appreciate things more and remove expectations…It is one day at a time.
