Don’t rush; take your time

Do you know when everybody says that things happen for a reason? Well, I believe that is true. I mean, if you think about it, when you rush things, things don’t always go as planned, or maybe you intend on doing one thing, but it happens in the complete opposite way. And when you come to think about it, it is all about timing. Or maybe it isn’t even about timing, but just the way things are meant to happen, and we sometimes do something that we think is good for us, but in reality, it isn’t.

I can’t think of just one specific event that has happened to me recently, but I was privy to one while walking on the street, which I found kind of funny. I was walking on the street, and this guy behind me passed me in a rush to cross the street before the light turned green for the cars to go. Little did he know that he had to wait by the time he got to the crosswalk, and I was standing beside him again. I know that you might think this scenario is irrelevant to this topic, but I think it is. I’ll tell you why…

No matter how much we want to rush things, we will always end up where we need to be when we arrive at our destination. Because along the way, we may bump into things, face obstacles and maybe fall and get back up. But it is the lessons we learn when we are patient that are what help us grow. However, when we are going through something that we are somehow speeding up the process, we may get lost in our journey and simply focus on our goal. It is as though we want a shortcut to our destination. Regardless of whether we should know our goal or have an idea of what it is, at least we should enjoy the process of getting where we have to go.

I think our goals are simply motivation and a reason to keep on going, but if we are not enjoying the way we are getting there and simply rushing ourselves to achieve it, the moment we reach our goal, we feel lost. We think that we have nothing left as that is the only thing we focus on. Because, by the end of the day, our goal is in the future, and our journey is in the present. So the more we learn how to take our time to be in the here and now, the more we are capable of feeling calm and serene with our state of being. I can say from experience that even if we have a goal, things can change, and things may not always go as planned, so even if you rush it, it may not even happen, and something better might come. So trust the process, embrace the journey, and be present because the past already happened and can’t be changed, the future is unknown, and we can’t be sure about it. Still, the present is where we can truly be in all our senses and not worry as much about the outcome. Don’t rush, take your time, and enjoy life as you have it because time flies, and before you know it, you will get where you have to be.
