Do you have a passion?

Have we lost that motivation, or do we simply not have a basis for what we are passionate about? Let me go more into detail. From a young age, I enjoyed numbers, and later on, I started to enjoy sports, specifically swimming. When I started with numbers, I would go behind the register at my Oma’s store and count money; I would go to Kumon, be fascinated by how algebra was, and now, read books about economics and well going to a university and studying the program that I am infatuated with. The other day, I was in class, and I ended up staying longer and talking with my teacher about the tricks, tips, and game-plays in economics and the financial world. I didn’t realize until that precise moment that I was in love with that world, the story and background of every transaction and trade. I will stop now; I won’t bore you with so much detail. However, I realized later that day after going rock climbing with a friend of mine that I missed swimming because I hadn’t gone in a while. When I went rock climbing, the feeling reminded me of the adrenaline and peace swimming would give me, the therapeutic moments, and escapism for hours, allowing me to detach myself from the world.

After that day of passions and going back to the root of where it all started, it got me thinking of the passions in people’s lives. What I mean by this, from what I have realized, is that not many people have passions nowadays. A passion is a form of motivation, a way to lift you and keep you going. It is also a kind of unconditional love you have towards something, not someone, which makes it completely different. It becomes one of those things you can’t truly live without and something you create a relationship with; having its ups and downs, not wanting to do it, losing that motivation from time to time, but always going back to it by the end of the day.

Everybody must find a passion at some point. Finding a love towards an action or a goal is insinuating that you wake up every morning with an intention and a reason to be. We do have to keep in mind that it is okay to have more than one passion in life. It is more convenient to have more than one because it is an on-going motivation that continuously gives purpose to our life.

So, here is a question for you that you can meditate on, what is your true passion or passions in life?
