Distance

We usually think about the physical aspect (i.e. metres, kilometres) when we think about distance. Nevertheless, have you ever felt when you start distancing yourself from a person, it is not only physical but also emotional? As though we are emotionally detaching ourselves from someone else.

I feel that a few things make us feel distant from others, but let me ask you a question first: have you ever thought that the closer you are to someone, you think they are more important in your life? If the answer is yes, my follow-up questions are: when you define the importance of people in your life (i.e. family), do they become a priority? When we think about our priorities, do we represent them by how much importance we give them and how meaningful they become by the amount of focus we give before something bigger comes along? Okay, I know there are many questions, but let me explain why I am saying all of this…

As I sat on the bench at the park and looked at people from afar, I thought of how much importance we give to those closest to us. It made me feel the closeness of important people in my life, but it also made me think of how much we care about others and how much importance we give to people, making the other person become a bigger picture and making others seem smaller. For instance, don’t you feel at times that when you start to develop feelings towards a person, the more important they become and the less you focus on others because they don’t seem as important and you feel more distant from them? Think about it for a second.

Well, the thing is, distance is directly related to importance. Importance is related to our priorities and how much we focus on something. So, even if one is physically distant from someone, it matters more how energetically and emotionally detached or attached we are to one another. I invite you to think about what things you prioritize and give more importance to because maybe the moment we become more open, things start flowing into our lives as we see all things being equal, and the distance doesn’t seem so far away.
