Becoming self-aware

Being self-aware does not mean being selfish, nor does it mean to be someone who only cares about themselves and has their ego up to the sky. It does mean to be conscious of your actions and how it affects the ones around you. Being self-aware is not something one will get overnight, and it is not something that will just happen. Because just like everything else, things take time, and it will not be easy at first, but you have to start somewhere.

Now, you may be wondering, where do I start? When should I start? Why should I start? Well, I recommend you start by asking a few simple questions that may have very complex answers: Who am I? Why do I want to become self-aware? Am I doing this for me or somebody else? The questions that were previously mentioned do not have to be the only ones or the ones you choose to ask yourself. However, you should start becoming aware of who you are, and it may not be an answer that you will get in a day, but you will get it.

But let me tell you a bit about my process/journey (however you want to call it). I started with willingly doing a guided meditation to a question I didn’t have the answer to, which was: who are you? I was speechless because I was thinking of the ways people described me, but I wasn’t sure if that was me. So I began questioning myself and my actions and looking around to see and observe the people that surrounded me. I felt lost. I then looked at the mirror and looked at myself, not my body or my face, but myself. I couldn’t f**kin’ recognize myself nor who I had become. So I wrote down a long letter describing who I thought I was, who I wanted to become, and how I would get there. It was difficult because I didn’t know where to start or even if that letter would do something. However, I got the courage to start saying things how they were and started to face my sh*t. Because something that we, as humans, tend to do is create this fantasy land of non-existent realities.

So, I think the best way to get to become self-aware is getting to know yourself by asking who you are, questioning your actions, and having an idea of who you want to become. Taking into consideration that those steps are not the only ones you can take, but some suggestions on how you can start.
